Core Beliefs

We believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. We believe in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, our Lord. God from God, Light from Light, of one being with the Father, through Him all things were made. Who, for us and for our salvation, came down from heaven. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended back into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to earth to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and Son. Together with the Father and the Son, He is worshiped and glorified. We believe in the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and eternal life with God through repentant faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

God is alive, real and sovereign. He is the source of all goodness. He loves each one of us more than we will ever know. He sent His Son Jesus to free us from the bondage of our fallen, selfish natures which lead to destruction, death in all its forms and permanent alienation from Him and His ways.

Jesus was sinless and freely chose to pay the price for each and every one of our sins by dying on the cross. He then came back to life and rules with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. He offers eternal life to everyone who acknowledges and chooses to turn from his/her fallen ways, and turns to Him for forgiveness and follows Him as his/her personal Savior and Lord of his/her life.

Before - This young Honduran boy was diagnosed with Impetigo, a contagious skin infection caused by streptococcus bacteria. Impetigo is a significant medical concern because it is very contagious and can spread to anyone who comes into contact with infected skin or clothing. After - Several days after the BTHS medical team administered a highly effective antibiotic, the boy's mother brought him back to the clinic. Everyone on the team was delighted to witness his quick recovery with very minimal scarring.

Core Values

As members of By The Holy Spirit Medical Adventure Evangelism, we value:

Knowing, Serving, and Worshiping God – Having a continuing love relationship with Him that is real and personal is essential for life. We claim that there is just 1 Ultimate Authority: our loving God as He may express Himself through His Holy Spirit through our group conscience. We seek to do His will in all our activities. We do this as members of our local churches in the local community and while doing outreach through missions. (Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.)

Prayer, Evangelism, and the Bible -- God’s inspired Word

Serving Human Beings – God calls us to give our best to each other (1 Peter 4:10 – Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others.).

All Human Life is Sacred and Every Person matters to God. (John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.)

Understanding that every person is a unique moment in time created by God and completed by repentant faith in Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 2:10 – For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which He has prepared in advance for us to do.)

Teamwork and Healthy Relationships – Committed Christ-followers (see core beliefs) working together with individuals and communities. This entails the practice of Rigorous Honesty using encouraging, direct communication that is Grace-filled, Spirit-led, and honoring of each person and relationship (Romans 12:5 – So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all of the others.)

Personal Transformation & Spiritual Growth – by allowing God to help us each become who He created us each to truly be through a repentant relationship with our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, and for many of us in conjunction with the practice of the principles of the 12 Steps of Recovery.

Nature – a profound appreciation for all of God’s creation as an expression of His grandeur and as an amazing gift entrusted into our stewardship.

Adventure – “God’s invitation for you to work with Him always leads to a crisis of belief that requires faith & action. You must make major adjustments in your life to join God in what He is doing.” -- (Henry Blackaby)

As part of the process of serving through the outreaches, By The Holy Spirit seeks to help medical and ministry professionals in-training develop a strong heart for sacrificially loving our fellow human beings and serving God in Jesus’ name throughout their lives.

Ecumenical & Interdenominational

Coming together and sharing a variety of Christian worship practices and traditions in the name of our savior Jesus, our commitment is to affirm the core beliefs and values of BTHS by allowing Christ to work through us to heal those people He has called us to serve. Therefore, we seek to work in genuine harmony with one another as living members of His body with His Holy Spirit as our leader and guide.
