Medical Missions - By The Holy Spirit

Engage, Encourage and Pray

By Dr. Chris Stuart, M.D.

In John 13:34, Jesus teaches His followers to "Love one another as I have loved you." Today, there are approximately 6.3 billion people living on our planet Earth. About 77% of them live in developing or “third-world” countries. It is estimated that 26% of the people in these developing countries are experiencing severe poverty. This means getting by every day:

  • without any running water
  • without secure sanitation systems
  • without regular daily meals or nourishment

This also means that 1.3 billion people are at very high risk for disease and sickness. Most of them receive little, if any, medical care.†

Medical Missions
The BTHS medial team shows new epidural equipment donated by Good Samaritan Hospital. L-R Rich Fry, Tom Meyer, Julie (Anesthesia Dept.), and Dave Klein.

The Core Vision of BTHS is that people will come to know Jesus as their personal Savior and experience His transformational love through the medical care we provide. Our Mission is to faithfully share the life-saving good news and love of Jesus Christ as He would have us through medical care for people in places outside of the United States where it is not readily available.

You Can Be A Part of our our Medical Adventure Evangelism. We seek committed Christ-followers to join our spirited team of physicians, nurses, and other volunteers who provide hands-on primary care through outreach clinics in mountainous central Honduras.

You don’t have to have medical skills to join the on-site team. In fact, there’s a great opportunity to simply engage and encourage and pray with and entertain and educate the people there while they are waiting to be seen by the medical staff. Maybe God is calling you to do face-painting, or to be a puppeteer or a prayer-warrior, or a song-leader, or a clown, or a fun-loving teacher with these people.

If you’re not able to go to Honduras with us this year, you can still be a part of the mission in many ways. We are hoping to provide each person we treat with a “Hygiene Health Packet” consisting of a bag filled with:

  • washcloths
  • soap
  • shampoo
  • toothbrushes
  • toothpaste
  • lotion
  • combs

We’re hoping to be able to distribute a total of 1400 with a goal of 300 coming from Northridge Fellowship. By assembling some Health Hygiene Packets and placing them in the collection drop box in the church lobby, you’ll be contributing much to the outreach.

Finally, financial contributions to our 501-C3 non-profit organization make a real difference at defraying all of the costs involved with the outreach such as procuring medicines and supplies and providing scholarship funds for people that otherwise have a desire to serve on-site, but with limiting financial resources. All donations are tax-deductible and gratefully appreciated.

Continued fruit of the Holy Spirit to you in Christ,

Chris Stuart, MD
